Introduction
The Military Type Certificate (MTC) holder is a Commonwealth organisation that acts as Defence’s custodian of the product’s type design approved under the MTC. The MTC holder supports the relevant Force Element Group(s) (or equivalent) by taking responsibility for the product’s continued airworthiness. To fulfil this responsibility, the MTC holder must continuously validate the safety of the type design by monitoring in-service usage and reported occurrences to validate any assumptions made during the certification process and ensure the type design remains compliant with the type certification basis (TCB). The MTC holder must demonstrate its technical capability (or access to a capability established through contracted service providers) to provide timely and appropriate design solutions to correct safety deficiencies with the type design. These design solutions must be compliant with the product’s TCB and be approved through the appropriate provisions of DASR .
What We Do
DASA will conduct regulatory oversight of all MTC holders, including any organisations supporting the MTC holder in the discharge of their responsibilities.
How Do I Apply?
There is no process for an organisation to apply to become an MTC holder. An in-service SPO will become the MTC holder by virtue of DASA issuing them the MTC for a product. Identification of the MTC holder is part of the process in applying for an MTC, which is the responsibility of the project office bringing a new platform into service.
