Introduction to Defence Aviation Safety (IDAS) Guidebook

The Introduction to Defence Aviation Safety Guidebook is issued by the Defence Aviation Authority to familiarise those working in Defence aviation with the Defence Aviation Safety Framework and Program. The Guidebook describes the imperative for Defence’s approach to Aviation Safety as well as the domestic and international context. It identifies the responsibility of Defence aviation commanders and managers to ensure safety in contrast to the independent safety assurance role of the Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA). The Guidebook includes a short description of each part of the Defence Aviation Safety Regulation and the corresponding authorisations issued by DASA.

Defence Aviation Safety Design Requirements Manual (DASDRM)

The DASDRM prescribes design requirements for aircraft systems and functions that are necessary to achieve safe flight in Defence’s proposed configuration, role and operating environment. It also prescribes additional design requirements that may further improve the level of safety, and that should be implemented where reasonably practicable. In each case, the DASDRM identifies the hazard(s) that the design requirement is intended to treat, to provide a basis for informed risk management where an aircraft design fails to meet the design requirement.
